Set Free | A Study In Galatians

June 22 – Oct 28

In this series we’re going to begin a study of one of Paul’s letters—the letter to the Galatians. This is one of Paul’s most passionate letters—he’s actually pretty angry as he writes it! We’ll begin by trying to figure out what the problem was—why did Paul write this letter?

Set Free | Living with Confidence

October 28

As Paul closes out his letter to the Galatians, he wants us to know where he gets his confidence, his strength, and his identity. He ends up where he began – at the cross.

Set Free | Do Good

October 21

Even though we are saved by grace alone, we know that we are supposed to be good and do good. But why? If we don’t have to be good to earn God’s favor, why should we even try to be good? This Sunday we’ll look at one of the ways Paul answers that question.

Set Free | Care for One Another

October 14

Ever feel like a tattle-tale? What do you do when your best friend is living dangerously? The Spirit teaches us something radical. While you must rescue your friend, you better watch out so you don’t end up in the same sin. What??? This Sunday you’re invited to explore this issue with us.

Set Free | Live By the Spirit

October 7

Most of us recognize that there is a battle going on inside of us. There are things we don’t want to do that we do, and things we do want to do that we don’t do. We get frustrated because we aren’t the people we know we should be. This Sunday we’ll take a look at why we are in this situation and what Paul tells us to do about it.

Set Free | Refuse to Return to Slavery

September 30

What does it mean that you are “called to freedom?” Are Christians expected to live without regard to precepts and laws? This Sunday we’ll explore what the Bible says authoritatively about Christian freedom in relation to ourselves, to others, and to God.

Set Free | Refuse to Return

September 23

The Bible teaches that we are saved (brought into Graceland) by Jesus and Jesus alone–not by what we do. But how do we live in Graceland? Can we do whatever we want? Paul gives us some guidelines about how we live in God’s grace and the first one is this: Refuse to return to Slaveland! Paul wants us to protect our freedom. This Sunday we’ll continue to think about how we can resist the pressure from people who tell us we’re not good enough for Graceland.

Set Free | Guidelines for Graceland

September 16

As we’ve worked our way through Galatians, we’ve learned that we are set free by Christ alone—not by anything we’ve done. Now we have to ask the next question: How do we live free? How do we live without the rules and masters of Slaveland? This Sunday we’ll start to look at some of the guidelines Paul gives us for living as free people.

Set Free | It’s Not What We Do!

September 9

What makes someone a Christian? Is it a political position? A set of values? Going to church? This Sunday we’ll see what Paul has to say about what makes someone a Christian.

Set Free | Free to Serve

September 2

What does a good leader look like? More specifically, what does a good Christian leader look like? Given some of the scandals in churches today, it’s important that we think about what it means to be a leader in our churches and in our families. In the passage we’re going to look at this Sunday, Paul is going to remind us that Christian leadership is always servant leadership.

Set Free | Sons and Daughters—NOT Slaves!

August 19

When we put our faith in Jesus we enter into a whole new world—a world where we have rights and privileges and freedom. That’s great but it’s also a little scary. This Sunday we’ll begin to think about how we live as Sons and Daughters of God.

Set Free | Why the Law?

August 12

As we’ve gone through the first half of Galatians, we’ve noticed that the Apostle Paul has had some harsh words and descriptions for the Law that the Jews cherished and followed. Paul even went so far as to say that those who were following the Law were under a curse! If that’s true, that following God’s Law can put us under a curse, then the question needs to be asked… Why did God give us the law in the first place?

Set Free | Don’t Let Anything Keep You from Jesus

July 29

We believe that Jesus brings life and hope and peace.  He brings the forgiveness of our sins and strength for us to live by.  This Sunday we’ll see that we must not let anything—even God’s words—keep us from Jesus.

Set Free | Faith, Faith, Faith!

July 29

We live in a time when the church and our human society is under the attacks of the enemy. The devil is trying to fool us. He is trying to bewitch us to believe that Christianity is just like any other religion: you work hard and you get saved. Satan wants to add anything to our salvation by “faith alone:” justice works, philanthropic works, or moral works. After establishing his credentials as an apostle in the first two chapters, Paul is moving in chapter 3 and 4 to the doctrinal section. Let us join Paul and dig into this important section on false teaching.

Set Free | Does that Mean We Can Sin as Much as We Want?

July 22

Paul has been making it clear to the Galatians that we are saved by grace alone.  It’s not what we’ve done that saves us—it’s Jesus alone.  Now Paul is going to start to deal with the objections—and there are some good ones.  This Sunday we’ll look at the question of whether being saved by grace alone means that we can sin all we want.

Set Free | The Importance of Eating Together

July 15

One time in Antioch Paul got right in Peter’s face and chewed him out. Paul was sure of one thing: Peter needed to be straightened out! And Paul didn’t back down. So what had Peter done that was so terrible? What made Paul confront him in front of everyone else? This morning we’ll take a look at one of the biggest fights between church leaders that the Bible tells us about.

Set Free | Can We Trust this Preacher?

July 8

Preachers want us to believe what they say.  They want us to trust them, but how do we know what a trustworthy preacher looks like?  What does a trust-worthy preacher do?  This Sunday we’ll take a look as Paul tells us why the Galatians should trust him when he tells them that his gospel is the right gospel.

Set Free | No Other Gospel

July 1

There are a lot of things we need to be willing to compromise on.  There are plenty of places where we can agree to disagree.  The Apostle Paul knew these things.  But there was one place where Paul wasn’t willing to give an inch—when it came to the Good News—the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We’ve got to make sure we get this right, Paul says, because there is no other Gospel. There is no other way to be saved.
