Our Mission...

It is the mission of Hillside Community to live out, celebrate, reflect, share and teach the values and priorities of the Kingdom of God.

Our Vision...

Hillside will increasingly become a community where the Kingdom of God is real and visible in every aspect of our lives.

Living out the reality of the values and priorities of the Kingdom of God means that:

• Hillside will be a community where people who have been far from God hear the good news that the Kingdom of God has come and that it is available to all.

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Mark 1:14-15

Hillside will be a place committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through both word and deed. Since salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone, Hillside will be a place with a passion to invite people to discover life by dying to ourselves and following Jesus Christ. We will be a place where sinful broken people will be welcomed and loved with the love of Christ.

• Hillside will be a community where the broken, the needy and the hurting of this world are cared for and helped.

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,…

In line with God’s heart for the least of this world (Matt. 25), Hillside will be a place committed to feeding hungry people, seeking justice for those who are the weakest in our world, treating the weak and poor of this world with dignity and helping the unemployed find meaningful work.

• Hillside will be a community where we learn to live together in love.

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household... and in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.

Ephesians 2:19, 22

Hillside will be a place where relationships between people are restored. It will be a place where ethnic, racial, social, gender and age barriers are broken down. Hillside will be a place where we will learn to speak the truth to each other in love and where the joy of living in honest, open Christian community is practiced and celebrated.

• Hillside will be a community that regularly engages in worship of the King with contagious joy and celebration.

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
And extol him with music and song.

Psalm 95: 1-2

We worship God by serving Him wherever we are with all of our hearts. But there are also times where we gather together as a community of believers and worship the God who is great and good. Our worship celebrates God’s goodness, but it also will be honest about the brokenness in our world and the brokenness in our own lives. It is only as we acknowledge the reality of pain and sin that we find the way to true joy and celebration.

• Hillside will be a community that values and protects God’s creation.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.

Genesis 1:28

Hillside will be a place where we learn the stewardship of all of God’s resources, including the stewardship of creation. In a world where creation is often ignored and sometimes exploited, we will be a place where the beauty and power of God’s creation will be affirmed.

• Hillside will be a place of encouragement and challenge where believers are taught and strengthened to resist the temptations of the kingdoms of this world and to live as citizens and ambassadors of the Kingdom of God.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Colossians 3:16

Hillside will be a place where people will grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. It will be a place where people discover their gifts and use those gifts as God has called them to do. It will be a place where young and old learn to live as citizens and ambassadors of the Kingdom of God. It will be a community that will grow in its ability to live out the fruits of the Spirit.
